Indoor Climbing - the new frontier

Until recently most novice climbers taking their first (vertical) steps would probably have done so on real rock, but it’s becoming more and more common for novices to be introduced to climbing on an indoor wall.
Climbing walls can be a great place to get started; they provide a relatively safe environment and don’t suffer from wet and cold weather like the real thing!

Different type of climbing in Ireland

Rock climbing may be divided into two broad categories: free climbing and aid climbing.

Free climbing requires the climber use only natural features of the rock formation.

Aid climbing involves using artificial devices placed in the rock to support all or part of the climber's body weight, and is normally practised on rock formations that lack necessary natural features suitable for free climbing.

The most popular in Ireland is Free climbing because a lot of mountains haven't any artificial devices
